Run in association with the CIPR
Wednesday 11 March 2020, 5.30pm, Upstairs at the Jericho Tavern
It should all be so simple: we mess up. We say sorry.
But the reality is that things are rarely so straightforward. Internal debates, complex backstories and
legal risks all come into play when responding to a f**k up; and a swift response to a company crisis is often held up by perceived dithering and delays.
While the internal wrangling continues, the 24-hour media cycle hounds us for clear answers, social media wolves are scratching at our digital doors, clamouring for a heartfelt apology, and employees are panicked by the response from clients, customers, friends and family.
This PUBlic Relations event is dedicated to the art of saying sorry. We take a detailed look at what happens when things go wrong; explore the legalities involved in apologising; and give practical tips that PR pros at any organisation can take away and keep up their sleeves for when it’s time to apologise.
Our line-up of unapologetically experienced speakers will help us on our way:
- Matt Akid, Director of Communications & Engagement, Oxford University Hospitals
- Nick Wright: communications consultant and Co-Founder, Apology Clause campaign
- Edward Green, Legal Advisor, Oxford University Press
The event will give our thriving public relations community an opportunity to learn more about this essential topic and to meet others in the industry looking to learn the art of the apology.
Proudly sponsored by Venn Group. Free drink on arrival to the first 40 people, courtesy of Venn.
PUBlic Relations events are run in association with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) as part of the Thames and Chiltern Region. CIPR members attending can gain 5 CIPR CPD points.
Doors will open at 5.30pm, and the panel session will start at 6pm.
This event is for PR and communications professionals working in Oxford and surrounding areas.
We look forward to seeing you there,
Emma Duke and Dan Selinger
